Hello! I’m Lindsey.
I’m a blogger, writer, mother to a tuxedo kitty, player two to my wonderful boyfriend, and a born-and-raised southern girl looking to live a more frugal and meaningful life. I’m passionate about saving money, and working to build a more minimalist and frugal lifestyle for myself. On my best day, you’d find me scarfing down a pound of crab legs, toes in the sand with the BF, and bothering my cat Midnight.
Where it all started…
So much to do. So little time. Take your time. Don’t be afraid. The door is still shut. Now, step forward. Can you do it?
Every story starts with a hero. In every story, the hero has a quest with challenges along the way. My quest began when I graduated from college and fell smack dab into the “real” world. My BF and I were moving in together, along with our cat Midnight. Little did we know the challenges that would stand before us.
After just one month of living together, we had blown through all our money and ended up having to pull from savings just to stay out of the red. We had just moved in and were still getting settled. We figured we’d do better next month. As the months continued, we would consistently go over budget. We would use the next month’s paycheck just to keep ourselves from carrying a balance and accumulating interest on our credit cards.
So much to do…so little time.
I got a job at a big corporation, and I realized after less than a month how much I hated my job. I didn’t want to give up the lifestyle we had grown accustomed to so I couldn’t quit, but I felt like my creativity was being locked behind bars. I was a professional whose job was to copy and paste. I became miserable and felt like I was just getting through the days.
Take your time…don’t be afraid
Even with both of us working we managed to blow through our money every month. I didn’t want to live this way anymore. I hated how much money and things were controlling my life. I didn’t know another way. It was at that moment when I vowed to change.
No longer would I accumulate a mass amount of things just to have them sit in boxes unopened. No longer would we blow our budget every month. It was then that I knew what needed to happen. It was then that we would begin our quest.
The door is shut
We started making small changes in our everyday lives. Frugality wasn’t something that came naturally to us, and it came with so many challenges. Eventually, those small changes turned into something big. We stopped going over budget. We stopped carelessly accumulating stuff. We learned how to reduce our spending in other areas so we could spend our money on the things we did want.
Now step forward
I knew that bloggers wrote articles and put them on Pinterest. This was the extent of my blogging knowledge, so needless to say a blogging career never crossed my mind. I felt that I needed to share my knowledge and experiences with others. It was in 2016 that And the Kitchen Sink was born.
Can you do it?
It is time to embark on your own quest. And the Kitchen Sink is your map, you are the hero.
